Hariprasad Chaurasia
Eternity (EMI, India, 1985)
Very rare Indian instrumental album, not a Bollywood thing though. Eerie 80's exotic ambiant groove (yes yes) provided by Hariprasad on the flute and what might be Charanjit Singh -in disguise- on keyboards. He's not credited but it sounds like he is involved here. Totally smoky !
LP, VG+/Ex-, 200 €

Instrumental Hits (Philips, India, 1977)
Wow ! I found this album during my second trip to India, more than 10 years ago, and have been stunned by the funkiness of Kalyanji & Anandji's young brother Babla. I have put the tune "Babla's Theme" on a comp in 2002 ("The Urge") because it had a James Brown / JB's feel, something that reminded "Hot Pants Road"... The rest of te LP is solid too, and it's only instrumental. Ultra hard to find, especially in good shape.
LP, VG+/Ex, 80 €
Kalyanji Anandji
Kalicharan BGM (EMI, India, 1976)
A rare Kalyanji-Anandji's joint. The songs from the movie were released on a side of an LP and on 7", but here are the dialogues and…background music from the film ! Bollywood groove at its best, killer samples and oriental beats !
LP, VG+/Ex-, 50 €
Joe Gomes
Journey 77 (EMI, India, 1977)
Sax and clarinet player from Goa Joe Gomez used to perform for bollywood songs but on this album he plays only instrumentals, it's arranged by Enoch Daniels and it's totally madlib-esque.

Bappi Lahiri
Sharaabi (EMI, India, 1984)
Oh that's a killer bollywood album ! Excellent Indian funk on “Jahan mil javen chaar yaar”, sung by Kishore Kumar and the famous actor Amitabh Bachchan ! Killer breaks, wah wah guitar, and funny chants : “One O’clock in my house, there was a cat, there was a mouse”. Plus a few tunes sung by Asha Bhosle with jazzy atmosphere, samples and LOOPs ; you won't be surprised to find some beats used by Madlib on his "Beatkonducta in India". The last track on this LP is a very good instrumental (of background music) simply called “Music”. Don’t miss this incredible exotic funk album !
